FSI’s Fixed Fire Services team continues to demonstrate its expertise in critical infrastructure upgrades, recently completing two significant fire safety projects at prominent Central Queensland open-cut coal mines.
In the first project, the team successfully replaced a 736KL Fire Water Storage Tank, implementing innovative solutions to maintain uninterrupted operations. Working in close collaboration with mine operators, FSI developed comprehensive risk mitigation strategies that ensured site safety throughout the project duration. A key innovation was the creation of a permanent bypass system utilising existing pipework infrastructure, enabling continuous fire water supply from an onsite dam to the processing plant during both demolition and construction phases.
At a separate Central Queensland mining operation, the team completed another complex fire safety upgrade, replacing a steel Fire Water Storage Tank through a carefully orchestrated process. The replacement was executed in several strategic phases, beginning with the safe dismantling of corroded steel panels while maintaining strict site safety protocols. The Fixed Fire team then installed new roof purlins and the top strake to establish a robust foundation for the upgraded structure. Advanced jacking techniques were employed to construct the remaining strakes at ground level, effectively eliminating working at heights risks.
Both projects showcase FSI’s methodical approach to large-scale Fixed Fire infrastructure upgrades in active mining environments. Through careful planning and coordination with site operations, the team successfully maintained continuous site operations while delivering essential safety infrastructure improvements.
These successful completions further reinforce FSI’s position as a leader in delivering complex Fixed Fire safety infrastructure upgrades across Australia’s critical mining sector. The team’s ability to develop innovative solutions while working within the constraints of active mining operations demonstrates FSI’s commitment to enhancing safety standards in challenging industrial environments.
